    Winter Guard competition

The Potomac Falls High School Band Program and Band Boosters will host “Symphony of Design,” a regional winter guard competition Feb. 20, from noon to 10 p.m.

This dramatic annual spectacle, sponsored by the Atlantic Indoor Association, features more than 50 guard units from across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Tickets for the competition will be sold at the door. Cost is $10 for adults, and $7 for seniors and children 12 and under.

Potomac Falls High School is at 46400 Algonkian Parkway in Sterling.

Winter guard competitions combine pageantry, dance, colorful display of flags and skillful maneuvering of equipment.

Guard units comprised of up to 30 students perform four-minute programs to prerecorded music using flags, props, dance and choreographed movements.  Flags are the mainstay of a performance and are often changed for dramatic effect.
